In the late 1700's, Thomas Moore (Irish) wrote a poem called 'Believe Me, if all These Endearing Young Charms,'. The poem was set to an existing tune, which is still known today. The other day I asked myself, "What if that tune had been a dance tune? How would it have sounded?" So as a way of passing the time, I went to the piano and turned Moore's love ballad into a jig. Next I had to think of a name for it, a name that would convey that it is different yet shares something with the old form. So I named it "The Charm Bracelet." We'll be playing it this Sunday to help celebrate St Patrick's Day. Other people are perfectly welcome to play it as well. I hereby declare it in the public domain.
