The vast majority of deaths in Ireland between 1845 and 1851 were caused by cholera and typhus, along with the usual causes: accidents and old age. If someone really wants to know what causes cholera and typhus, they can do some research. Suffice it to say, overpopulation led to inadequate sanitation which led to disease.
