If it helps (and if you already play guitar), EADG tuning - top to bottom - is the same as a guitar but upside down. Try playing upside down guitar chords to get you started. Bozouki is great for backing but - unless you got VERY big hands - be careful when playing tunes, as I know of one person who had to give up playing for a while due to RSI (repetitive strain injury) getting those big stretches. For this reason I play mandola, as you can do the stretches for tunes without injury and back tunes, too, though you don't get the depth of a bouzouki. Obviously, it's horses for courses.
