The cosmetic industry has had such research curtailed for some time now in The UK. What that means is that the animal testing is done where regulations are less stringent and the cosmetics are sold here anyway. Animal welfare has just lowered the cost of cruelty to the multinationals. Research done here has to go through research ethics structures and animal testing has to inform curative or palliative development. In addition, early work can be more and more computer modelled, so animals get their dose at the level where humans used to in many circumstances. On balance, we need to test interventions. Not just for humans but veterinary too. Two sheep have a shorter life to enhance the health of millions. When I give money to Cancer Research, I realise what they have to use some of it for.
