My local NPR station carries a BBC News Hour every morning that I presume (perhaps incorrectly) is targeted at North American audiences. The broadcast featured a remembrance of Goffin this morning during which the British music critic voiced his opinion that some of the songs written by Goffin (Goffin was usually the lyricist in all of his collaborations) will, over time, enter the genre of folk songs, so enduring and universal are his lyrics. He might be correct about that.
