Is there a Sennheiser equivalent to the SM57, and if so, is it also considered better ? Not really. First the SM57 is a better mic anyway (same capsule as the 58 but none of that pop-shield foam that cuts the HF, and less of a presence peak), also I've seen the e835 and others in its range suggested for use as an instrument mic. Sennheiser would like you to use the e614 as an instrument mic, but as it's a condenser you could hardly say it's equivalent to the SM57.
