That wasn't Berger's character, who is a white boy who lived among the Cheyenne. I had breakfast with Mr. Berger, by accident, when I was in college. He'd spoken to the students the night before, stayed the night somewhere on campus and had breakfast in the cafeteria the next day. I think I was the only woman at the table. I don't think Mr. Berger thought much of women. His generation mostly didn't. I did read
