Martin Simpson tells a story about how he was informed by a large Glaswegian that the correct pronunciation is "dyser". Given that Cyril knew Malta well enough to write about it, I suspect he got it right. On the other hand "o" is a stronger sound than "er" with which to end a stanza. |
