The English is closest to the German original. I think there is a French version that is closer to the original, but the verse about Asti echoes the German in which water is pure as that of a spring or good as Moselle wine. Asti is center of a top wine region. The general idea is the same in both sets of lyrics. The remakes being Scout songs, differences are normal.
