Strange that this thread has re-surfaced after several years I well remember Byron from my days with Hartley Morris, and was only thinking of him a few weeks ago !!.
He was a Bricklayer if I remember correctly, with Huge Rough Horny Hands and a Face the colour of a Tomato, no doubt brought about by his liking for a pint (or two, or three!!) together with a reputation as a cantankerous B***er, but if you caught him in a quiet moment he was actually a thoughtful and surprisingly sensitive man.
