Leaving them on for 24 hours seems to give them the opportunity to stretch out. I used to be able to kill a brand new set in 15 minutes due to acid sweat. In fact I still can. I have just found that leaving them sit for that length of time makes a difference. I only have to change strings a couple of times a year now. Mark Ross
