it's not just alternative agriculture... but alternative marketing. When in NY City, the local streets in Queens are just filled with assorted storefronts that sell every kind of fruit, vegetable, meat, spice from all different cultures... but that doesn't exist in many other US cities large or small... in fact, many are urban deserts that are underserved by grocery chains and trying to shop for fresh food is challenging at best. Some not for profit groups have set up farmers markets on street corners to help serve these communities. Growing healthy food that people can't get access to is a logistical issue that needs more work to fix.
