Ed, the redskin in redskin peanut refers to the skin around the nut kernel, as you may well know. No racial connotations there. But you may have stumbled onto a fitting compromise for this dilemma. Daniel Snyder may go for the name "Washington Redskin Peanuts" which doesn't offend anyone and retains the controversial name he won't let go of. Of course, if he really wanted to fix the 'Skins problems he'd sell the franchise to an owner who'd leave the football operations to football experts.
