Ah, the Ardennes is not Flanders, it's deepest, darkest Wallonia (and you don't get much deeper and darker than an area which still practiced Nestorianism a hundred years ago, 1200 years and more after it disappeared from the rest of Christendom). That far down, you're on the start of the Vosges, which runs right down into Alsace. You probably ahd a slightly heartier Belgian version. The real Alsace one isn't stodgy, it's practically filo pastry with veg on. We should make the local Ratgever a Mediator, then: he used to work in the Flemish mediation service.
