Assuming, Amos, that the speed was instantly reached with the pitch, you wouldn't have to worry about the mass because the atoms in front of the object would be fused together by it (assuming it didn't instantly ignite). These would set off further fusion events. Do you know what energy is released by a fusion event? HINT: Fusion powers the stars.
