It Was a Night Like This
(Tom Paxton)

(Intro) G7 G6 G C

         G7
It was a night like this;
         C
It was a long time ago.
             G7
It might have been a little chilly;
             C
They might've had a little snow.
            C7
There was a man named Joseph
             F
And there was Mary his wife.
       G
She was carrying a baby;
       C
She was bursting with light.

There was a wind in the willows;
There was a wind in the firs.
They had one little burro
And the burro was hers.
Yes, her name was Mary;
She was bathed in grace;
She said, "it's time for the baby,
I wanna see his face."

    G                                 C       Am
And nothing's going to be the same in this old world -
G7                C
Everything changes tonight.

All the sheep in the meadow,
The cows in the corn
Were telling one another,
"A child was born."
First the sky was quiet,
Then the song began.
They were singing across the heavens
About the son of man.

And nothing's going to be the same in this old world -
Everything changes tonight.

So light up the window,
Bring on the bell.
We're gonna call this baby
Emmanuel.
We're gonna call him Jesus;
We're gonna call him Christ;
We're gonna call him saviour;
We're gonna call him light;

And nothing's going to be the same in this old world -
Everything changes tonight.
Oh, nothing's going to be the same in this old world -
Everything changes tonight.
