I am so very sorry to have to share this news. It was posted on Facebook 30 minutes ago:
This is Kate, Mary Sorcha Wise daughter. I am very sorry to inform you all that my mom passed away Sunday or Monday. She was found Monday afternoon and she had already moved on. I will be leaving her facebook open for a week or two, because this is the only line of communication I have with most of you. It will take me some time to reply back to all of the questions and comments that you leave, but I promise that I will do my best to reply to all of them. This is not how I would have liked to inform all of her friends, but I'm sorry to say that it is the only way to get everyone. We believe that she had a heart attack or became unconscious due to lack of oxygen and fell to the floor while trying to dial 911. We are not certain of anything and don't have much information, but as I know I will try to post on her page the info that we have. Who ever sent her the two books they arrived but not sure what to do with them. Please let me know if you would like me to send them back to you. Thank you all for being there for her and most of all being her friends. I know she cared for all of you very much and she may be visiting you soon, so keep an ear open for her. Sincerely, Kate.
Back in 2003, when I drove out to Idaho from Kentucky, I was supposed to meet her at a truck stop outside Cheyenne. I went to one and she went to another, and when I didn't show up she had her husband put out an APB to the Wyoming State Police to see if I was okay. I didn't know this until I was in Evanston, completely across the state and my wife called to tell me that I'd better call Sorcha and let her know I was okay. I did, I was, and she told me the above story.
love you sorcha, you pain in the arse. enjoy whatever adventures come next. go ride the wind for a while and if you come visiting, out of nosiness, know you are welcome. x x x x
Sad to learn of this, and thanks, Michele, for letting us know. I very much enjoyed meeting her at a Getaway a number of years ago. My deep condolences to her family and all who loved her.
Damn, another good one gone. One of the original and genuine Mudcatters who made this place such a stimulating and addictive place to hang out back then. RIP.
I am so sorry to read this, especially as I had the pleasure of meeting (and hearing) Mary/Sorcha when she visited England about 11 years ago - I was lucky enough to meet both Sorcha and Kendall on the same evening, when a Mudgather had been arranged at the White Lion in Plaistow. My deepest sympathies to Kate and all close friends and family.
Sorry to hear this news, we had our differences but it was a pleasure to meet her and have her stay with us, all those years ago - at the Black Lion in Plaistow, not the White - and at Hastings.
Condolences to her friends and family, as Gervase says, another of the originals gone...
I felt so sad when I saw her daughter's message only minutes after it was posted on Facebook last night. When I think of Sorcha I will always think of our messages to each other about frogs and toads. She was so interesting and active and I loved looking at the photos she posted of the things she was making and had made. I didn't meet her in person but I will miss her. Such sad news.
So very sorry to hear that Sorcha has passed away. We did meet when Sorcha visited the UK, so I'll keep her in my memory. My condolences, may she rest in peace.
Only met Sorcha in Mudchat but we chatted a lot way back, sorry if you missed me here, sometimes I get sick of hearing my own voice! (so to speak) especially me whinging about my health problems etc which pale into insignificance to everyone else's stuff. Heartfelt condolences to Sorch's family she will be missed by all of us. Peter
How sad - I so nearly met her on the UK visit back in 2004 but unfortunately the dates didn't work out but we kept in touch on mudcat and I always think of her as one of the first people I got to know on the forum. RIP and condolences to the family
Sarah

For those who do not believe: The first law of thermodynamics states that energy is neither created nor destroyed. Consequently, Sorcha's energy remains among us in a different form.
For those who do believe: She now sings in a spirit world of love, light, warmth, and divinity.
She will be missed here; my sympathy goes to her loved ones who did not get to say goodbye.

That is sad......condolences to Mary's family.
Mary was my first Secret Santa many years ago, so like gnu I can testify to the jam being excellent!
I remember her excitement when she was chosen to be the Fiddler in a production of "Fiddler on the roof".

Damn! Now I'll never get to meet her! Got to know her in Mudchat several years ago and had her as a friend on Facebook. Despite our friendship being "virtual" I was very fond of her. I'm so sad that she has gone. Enjoy the Summerlands Sorch.
Her family may not see the posts here, as her daughter chose to send us all a message thru face book....here is her facebook page if you want to post a message, condolence, complaint or other there: https://www.facebook.com/mary.s.wise?fref=ts&ref=br_tf i will cross post a link to this thread there, too.... check her page to see photos of all the lovely quilts she made. I wish there was a way to hear her music..... i visited her a couple of times. she lived just a few miles from where my father and his two siblings were born...and we went to that town to an old time fiddler's jam....great memories. She had been having some problems lately, and I am sorry she is gone. I am glad she found so many friends here...and was able to travel abroad and have a great adventure while she could!!!
Met her a couple of times in Colorado at the Longs Peak festival. We had a couple of wee fiddle/guitar jams and she was great craic. My condolences to her family.

Son of a bitch. She was another face behind a name I wanted to meet....but never did. She was supportive of me during some of my rough times, and sometimes gave me the kick in the ass I needed. Thank you for everything, my friend. Let the stars be your candle in the window, let them guide you homeward.
We are so sorry to hear this. I had many exchanges with Sorcha over the years, and Jenn and I stopped to see her several years ago.

I see some photos here but none that show Sorcha in action. I mean, what she loved to do, fiddling. I can't figure out how to direct you to one photo but I added a couple photos onto the Photos page of my website. Just scroll down and have a look at the last two. Hey, I'm amazed I figured out this much to get it to work for this forum. Here is a time when we were visiting with other 'Catters in a saloon in what Art Thieme would call "Shy-Anne". The photos I have say it was 2001. I guess I have to believe that. One is Sorcha and me on the fiddles. The other is all of us that were there. You can see KatLaughing was there too, God bless her. It was a good session. I really need to meet some 'Catters again.
Thanks for posting the Cheyenne photo, Rex. For some reason I was holding a mandolin in the pic. Sorcha was a true Wyoming girl. Almost all of the ones I have met are straightforward and honest to a fault, and whether happy or angry, let you know exactly where you stand. She was a high plains flower, bright and a little prickly. I will miss her.
She passed our way in 2004, wafted here by Emma B. The occasion was my brother's 50th birthday party, with good music (including her fiddling), good catering and... as Sorcha put it...
