I decluttered the front fridge, (I have two fridges) as we have been away from home quite a bit recently and feeling a bit off colour so things have accumulated. About half was too far gone to eat, but anything still good was chopped up and dropped into the pressure cooker on top of some cubed beef skirt and a sliced onion already fried then high pressured for ten minutes and left to cool.

Five minutes at high pressure, some gravy powder to thicken and there is a large pot of nourishing stew. It might seem a rather odd breakfast, but I feel a bit better already, and the sun is shining.

My mother used to put all the leftovers into her stews, heated up the pot to cook something or make gravy and once a week it was emptied out completely to go with Yorkshire pudding, given a good scrub and put away for a couple of days at the weekends. Food never went in the bin back then.
