You are erecting a straw man here. The issue is not and has never been legitimate criticism of the government but rather the singling out and demonizing of a country and it's people.

Take the fixation on AIPAC for instance. It is but one among several thousand lobby groups in Washington but it is the only one we see receive constant contempt and criticism here. Why is that? There are many Muslim lobby groups in Washington, for instance, but we never anything about them. Muslim countries receive far more aid from the US than does Israel and most of them have horrendous human rights records but we don't hear about that do we? No, the cause of the world's ills is a tiny country of eight million people and a lobby group that controls the US government. Gives one pause doesn't it.
