What a sad day indeed. I remember seeing John in the 60's with Pentangle, then I attended a concert with him and Stefan Grossman and Ralph McTell in Washington D.C. in about 1979 or so. Later, in 1988 I played a workshop at Philly Folk Festival with John, after which we sat and talked for a while. A superb musician and a gentleman as well, I will always remember him as a an all round good bloke. Whenever I heard him play my initial reaction was to go home and smash all my instruments in the fireplace as I could never match his skills. I am glad I didn't, but I am sad he is no longer with us.
