No, Red Haired Boy isn't pentatonic, there are no gaps in the scale. I think it's mixolydian, which is no more or less accessible than our normal (Ionian) mode to musicians from different traditions. Perhaps the person who advised this tune wasn't entirely clear what a pentatonic tune is. Anyway, glad it went down well. Marje
