Some clarification and context: A Prairie Home Companion is a live performance radio program, loosely modeled after, and gently parodying, radio shows of the 1930's and '40's, including (among other things) spoofs of commercial sponsors. Back in the early 1980's, one of those sponsors was Bertha's Kitty Boutique in the 'Dales, and they would advertise products intended to appeal to cat owners. Occasionally, the ads would feature samples from the "Songs of the Cat Songbook," which were all spoofs of famous songs rewritten with a cat theme. "Cat Town Races," a spoof (naturally) of "Camptown Races," was one of those songs.
