Yep dbt remember much of the thread you have posted above!! Miners' home coal delivery was an event and dad was usually at work when it came so we all got the coal in shovelling it down the hole to the coal cellar, some times the coal cobs (dunt think this is a Yorkshire word ~ big lumps!) had to be broken to get smaller pieces down! Coal fires and reeking smoke and fire guards, set pots and gas geezers, outside toilets and cellars of course Getting the fire going by "drawing" with the Barnsley Chronicle and small shovel to make a draught and producing flame in the sticks etc!
