I met Ronnie Gilbert briefly in Chicago in 1988. My then singing partner, Margaret Nelson, and I got a fifteen minute spot on the Grant Park band shell stage for a summer time Chicago folk festival. Holly Near and Ronnie Gilbert were headliners. Our set was early in the evening. When we got off Ronnie walked up and said she really liked our set. I didn't know she'd been listening in the wings. For someone of that stature, still taking time to listen to other performers, I thought was awesome. As far as I was concerned, she could do no wrong.
