Bonnie Shaljean Tech: Google Backup? Since when? (4) Tech: Google Backup? Since when? 26 Jul 15

OK, so as I booted up this fine summer's day, I got a grey dialog-box on my screen which I'd never seen before. It said something about Backup not being able to rename my folder of saved photos, so it was saving them in a "prior file" instead. (No, I don't know what that means either.) Since I didn't have my external backup drive connected, and wasn't backing up, and haven't done anything with the photos on this computer in a zillion years, I thought it was a bit strange.

This was right after I'd manually run Windows Update (as I always do on startup), double-checked that Avast AV was current, confirmed that my firewall was on, yada yada my usual boot routine. All that stuff had just finished and said I was good to go. So I started to open Firefox, then got another little grey box informing me that I couldn't proceed with Google backup until I agreed to their terms of service.

Since I hadn't asked them to butt in anyway, I just clicked Cancel, and it departed, leaving me and my un-whatever-they-are'd photos to our fate.

But... wait a minute... excuse me? They want me to back up my entire computer onto one of their cloud drives, NOT at my request? I. Don't. Think. So.

Anybody seen this before? What's going on? (I have Windows 7 on a Sony 64-bit laptop, if that makes any difference.) Wish John was still in Kansas, snif.
