Interesting that most of the submissions say Friday we went to the landlord. My father used to sing the same song (which he learned in the Army during World War 2) and instead of landlord it was Major:
On Monday we had bread and gravy.
Tuesday was gravy and bread.
Wednesday and Thursday was gravy on toast which is nothing but gravy and bread.
On Friday we went to the Major.
Said "please give us something instead".
So Saturday morning by way of a change...we had gravy without any bread.
