Corbyn is doing well because the basic slogan of the other three "We'll do austerity but a bit more nicely" has almost no appeal to anyone who is actually threatened by austerity which is a surprising number of us. When I hear the appeal that we must not alienate the "middle ground" I look at where that middle ground is pitched and realise that not only is it far to the right of the the pre-Blair Labour Party, it is far to the right of the pre-Thatcher Tory Party and on some issues further to the right than she was. Blaor and Blairism is held out by some as a shining example of what can be done. What his acolytes don't seem to get is that to many he was a crashing disappointment and his legacy isn't a proud one.
