bfolkemer Sara Grey/Kieron Means Concert Gettysbur (2) Sara Grey/Kieron Means Concert Gettysbur 09 Sep 15

I'm trying to get the word out about a wonderful free concert this Sunday, Sept. 13, featuring Sara Grey and Kieron Means, 7:30pm. Doors open at 7pm.

Sept. 13 Concert is American Music's Real Deal: Sara Grey and Kieron Means; Gettysburg's Dearest Home Opening
Sara Grey and Kieron Means perform American Old Time and traditional folk music on Sunday, Sept. 13, 7:30 pm, Christ Lutheran Church, 30 Chambersburg St., Gettysburg, PA. Their music is the real deal—American music as distinct from Americana. Old Time ballads, cowboy songs and Primitive Methodist hymns are all grist to their individual mill, turned by the deepest waters of North American culture. Sara's unique frailing 5-string banjo style, Kieron's blues-inflected guitar, and their lovely voices are in perfect, next-of-kin harmony. Sara has a certain quality of voice that compels you to give her your undivided attention, and it's obvious why she is regarded as one of the foremost exponents of the old-time style, as well as an extraordinary song-collector and fine storyteller. Kieron's voice is as smooth as silk, rich and mellow. His skillful guitar accompaniments are sparse and understated, doing just enough to support the song. Sing Out! magazine observes, "There is an intoxicating comfort in everything Sara Grey does these days… and the pleasure of keeping the tradition alive with her son, Kieron Means, can be easily witnessed in every note and every glance in their live performances." Once you have heard this mother and son duo perform together you will never forget their instinctive, natural blend and haunting harmonies. For directions or more information, contact Beth Folkemer at (717) 253-4889 or bfolkemer@centurylink.net. Admission is free, donation encouraged. To hear audio visit www.saragrey.net.

Gettysburg band, Dearest Home, will open for Sara and Kieron, performing traditional Northern Appalachian folk songs, as featured on their new album Back to Laurel Hill. Si Kahn writes, "In their voices, you can hear the peaks and valley of the landscape, feel the past and future marching together, and sense the shadows of the mountains."
