Last night at a concert by Cataleya I heard a suite by Paul Patterson, Westerly Winds. I'd never heard of him, but it turned out to be based on West Country folk songs. All easily recognised except I don't know the 'official' words to the first, I was (silently)singing along "Tomatoes are soft and they don't hurt the skin But this one was hard, it was packed in a tin" The weblink says it's called Farmer Giles. I couldn't find it here except a mention as a cod-rustic music hall song in the thread about Buttercup Joe. Any offers? The audience were mostly of a generation that sang these songs at school, and heard them on the Wireless, so we found it hard to keep quiet.
