I just read a library book called "The Internet is not the Answer." It made some good points about the Internet, and it also stated that Google, et al, collect data about me as I surf, seeking to pinpoint my interests and weaknesses so as to ..............(I'm not sure what.) I just want to say that Big Brother is not that smart, because in the last few years, Internet spies have thought that I: live in St Louis live in Canada speak Spanish live downtown am English; and today, I got a message from Tesco.de So now I am German. The Spanish was interesting, because I got ads in Spanish while listening to Russian music. Linguistically, the ads were fun because the spiel was (as far as I could tell) in fluent Spanish, but the product names were spoken in a particularly cold, crackling kind of American English. I wish I could tell the Spanish speakers that English does not have to be that ugly.
