That's the philosophy, Greg. That ideal is not always achieved. It's true that attendance has gone down in "mainline" churches in Europe and North America over the last 50 years. Social obligation no longer demands church attendance. As a result, it seems to me that the people who go to church, are there because they want to be. That lack of social obligation makes for a deeper spirituality.
