Thanks to allie kiwi who emailed me to tell me about what looked like a song fragment in a newspaper cutting reproduced in the book Kiwi Companeros. The reproduction in the book was not clear enough for allie to send me all the words but she gave me full references and a link to contact the "Ask a Librarian " service of the National Library of New Zealand. She also phoned them for me and today I received an email with an attached photo of the newspaper cutting. Having looked at all the words I can now see that this is a long poem in honour of the men who died for the Spanish Republic rather than a song but it was interesting to see that New Zealand did have an appreciative public response to the sacrifice of these brave men. Thanks again to allie kiwi and all the good people at the excellent National Library of New Zealand. I am still collecting Songs in English About The Spanish Civil War in another Mudcat thread here thread.cfm?threadid=128093 and would be pleased to have any more songs which reference New Zealand's participation in the conflict.
