I don't know if the following has been printed elsewhere on Mudcat or not. Sometime around 1963/64, when I was working at C# House, John would come into the Sound Library on a regular basis. Sometime around this date he published an article in the Society's magazine "English Dance & Song". The article purported to be based on an interview that John recorded with an elderly resident of Pewsey in Wiltshire. The old man told John about a tradition of making musical clay "pipes" in the village. Years later John told me that he had made the whole thing up "as a joke".
