Re the Scillonian: yes, Dick, I've been on it several times. It's a boat with very little keel, because it has to rest on sand sometimes, which makes it less stable than a deep-keeled vessel. The locals refer to it as the Great White Sick-Bucket, which is reason enough to avoid using it in winter.

Cornwall and Devon are big counties with lots going on - more than enough to entertain and occupy visitors for a weeek or so, without undertaking a time-consuming and expensive trip across the sea.
