When I was a young soldier in a cavalry regiment we were cleaning weapons after being on the firing range with the tanks, [ as was all the squadron ] myself and my tank commander Brad Fletcher were sat on the turret of our tank, I was cleaning the co-axial .30 Browning machine gun and Brad was cleaning the commanders Browning, another tank a few yards away from us had his weapons pointed towards us when suddenly his co-axial machine gun fired off a single round, it passed between Brad and myself, an inch either way and one of us would have been dead, Brad went and hauled the gunner out of his tank and arrested him for reckless discharge of a weapon and failing to clear his weapons after firing, I just carried on with my cleaning. The gunner in question got 56 days detention. Dave H
