GUEST,kenny Scottish Flute Day-Edinburgh 7th May (1) Scottish Flute Day-Edinburgh 7th May 26 Mar 16

As part of the 2016 "TradFest" in Edinburgh, [ between 27th April and 8th May ], we're bringing back the Edinburgh "FluteFling" Scottish Flute Day on Saturday 7th May, between 9.30am - 4.30pm in the Old Parish Church Hall, Bellfield Street, Portobello, Edinburgh EH15 2BP.

As in the previous 2 years, a one-day series of workshops is planned to explore and develop ways of playing Scottish traditional music on the flute, covering different styles and tunes, technique, decoration, breathing, phrasing, tone production and history.
Students will attend classes from 3 tutors : returning are Sharon Creasey from Glasgow [ Boehm-system flute ], and Kenny Hadden from Aberdeen [ simple-system, keyed or un-keyed flute ], and we are delighted in this, our third year, to welcome Tom Oakes as our third tutor [ also simple-system flute ]. Former tutor Gordon Turnbull is having a year off from teaching, but will definitely be around helping out on the day, and also joining in on the sessions.
As well as the day's classes, we are in the process of organising very informal sessions for the Friday and Saturday evenings, and also Sunday early afternoon to which all students are invited.

We are also very pleased, and indeed honoured, to be having as a special guest, "The Boys Of The Lough's" own Cathal McConnell, who will talk about his life and music as a flute and whistle player, and no doubt play a few tunes for us.

The link to the "Tradfest" site is here :

and bookings for the "FluteFling" can now be made through their website.

We are very grateful to have received help in funding this event from "Creative Scotland" through their "Tasgadh" funding stream, administered by "Feisean nan Gaidheal".
