Play the tune as slowly as you can but still sounds right. Play it as fast as you can before it sounds fudgey. Find the speed that is best for the tune within those 2. Work on learning it at that speed and then add twiddley bits.
PS An accordion base is often too heavy - play fewer base notes and play them light. FloraG
