Just to second Joe's observation above that "I tend to agree with Steve Shaw, although I might have a more moderate tone..." Don't always agree with Steve, but he seems to have nailed the main points in this instance. The US are our friends and allies, to be sure; but they do have a lamentable tendency to overreact and bully. ≈M≈ Though would add that "Israel, the most belligerent nation on earth" may be a bit hyperbolical. I am sure one could think of a few worthier candidates for the title (N Korea? Argentina? some entities of sub-Saharan Africa?), even tho I agree that "their mistreatment and repression of Palestinians" is indefensible.
