Interestingly, some recordings have the guitar as an integral part of the song.i.e. take the guitar part away and the song is diminished! For example, Joan Baez did a cover version ( as they like to say, these days) of Mark Knopfler's " Brothers in Arms". Now most Youtube comments on Joan's version are very complimentary BUT most commentators add that the song just isn't the same without Mark's guitar parts.
