I saw Don McLean in Brighton - must have been about 1980 or so - at the Dome concert hall, which was packed. He came on, stepped up to the mic and said, "I like playing love songs and old rock'n roll" - and then played non-stop for over two hours to rapturous applause. His stage presence was superb - warm and funny - his playing and singing second to none. He played guitar and did some banjo frailing. One of the best concerts I ever attended in those days - around 35 years ago. I've no idea what he's like now. What were we all like 35 years ago?
