I haven't had any luck finding definitive roots for this song. I'm guessing it was American-Irish, early 20th century. The lyrics I've found are amazingly similar - all seem to be almost exactly the same as the lyrics in the Digital Tradition. One would think we could find this in a songbook somewhere, but no cigar.
This page (click) says that the song was written by Charles J. Kickham, who also wrote "Slievenamon."
