Hey, what an old thread! I did post in 2000 too (as Trish Guest), and I'm still here!

Slightly joky definition of people who live here is Edinburghers (a bit like Hamburgers coming from Hamburg - and McDonalds'!) Otherwise Edinburgh itself gets referred to as Embra or Embro, the latter as in Jack's very comprehensive studies of Edinburgh-related music.

Sad to say that one or 2 of the names mentioned in 2000 are no longer with us, notably Iain Grant, the moothie player.

Bannerman's, as with many other venues on the Cowgate, is now largely a venue for young "indie" and pop bands: more likely to hear my son's band playing there than anyone as old as me!

And the "Canny Man" is still going strong in Morningside: no mobile phones, etc, allowed!
