Thanks for flagging up an interesting old thread. Burl Ives did have a major influence on the folk revival, especially in the UK West Country. How? Because he was a major inspiration for Cyril Tawney, who hearing Burl Ives thought, 'I could do that.' And did. Cyril's voice also fitted well with his nylon strung guitar and you can certainly hear Burl's influence, especially when Cyril sang Burl Ives covers. After leaving the navy in 1959 Cyril went on to found the West of England Folk Centre which pretty much kick-started the folk revival in the West Country.
