I joined "The Meadows Mummers" 2 years ago, an all-female group, but they had been in existence for longer than that, and with a number of different dramatis personae. I was originally co-opted as musician, playing short snatches of music (on button accordion) to suit each character, but have gradually had more speaking lines added. Our play is based on older texts but with modern and topical twists. Our prime mover is Fiona, who has made considerable academic study of the art and old scripts, and plays the strangest doctor you have ever seen! In January if thus year, we took part in the International Mummers' Unconvention in Stroud, Glos, England. We have had a lot of encouragement from Stan Reeves (Edinburgh) who is himself involved in mumming too.
