Ruddy heck. I'd forgotten I'd penned that dubious ode. You're right Dave, it is more of a stag night than a wedding reception ditty. The comments above about many songs being non gender specific is a good one. When we write songs, we tend to have people or an amalgamation of people in mind as we write, even if the finished song is pure fiction and abstract. As these more enlightened times are demonstrating, many will be thinking of people they know whose weddings were good subjects for cracking songs and by simple law of averages, these will be gay people we sing of without knowing it, nor indeed have puerile interest in knowing. Whether they'd hit the mudcat song archive is a different matter. Conservatives forces are still a number of memorial services away from their influence being a factor.
