I booked a room for the GF at Chippenham last month - worth a try. Not 8 miles but a good walk. She drives so as to not waste a moment. Try soon for the Premier Inn, Chippenham There is, of course, Sidmouth but the hotel situation is similar - there can be cancellations. (PM me) there may be a cancellation that I could point to (will know around Xmas time).
