All I'm trying to get across is that this is a modern song. And it is often easy to find who wrote them in two minutes. There is a whole article about this song which you can find if you Google the title, that's the useful information to post, where a song comes from - how it was written, and who by (not always true though!). Occasionally you might well be asking about a traditional derivative, but not in this particular instance. Sadly, there are people who now credit the artist performing the song as is they wrote it when all they've done is recorded it, and had no part in its authorship or composition. If it's Trad. often you will see Trad. Arr. by. However, in this case it was obviously a modern work. When you do find a trad. work it is true that people on Mudcat like to collect lyric variations or parodies. Sometimes a singer will add bits or change the song. However, this does not give them any part of the copyright, unless its trad. Giving correct information is important as you can have people stealing songs due to the misinformation that you might put out, as this gets brought up by Google. This leads to loss of copyright, and hurts the writer or their family. For some of us sad individuals, posterity is important. Mudcat is often a good research resource, and a way of storing extra information on songs, along with copyright society databases. It would be sad if that gets lost in careless attribution of lyrics.   Whoo.. hope that clarifies!
