A German author (and composer) whose penname was E. T. A. Hoffmann had a tomcat. The tomcat became the protagonist of a wildly hallucinatory satirical novel. In real life Hoffmann was very fond of his pet cat, who died as Hoffmann was succumbing to terminal illness himself. The author was brokenhearted about the loss of the cat. The tomcat -- in German, KATER -- had the same name in the novel as in real life. The cat's name was Murr. I think that one's inspired, and not just because it reminds me of Mrrzy.
