well if I lived in a city I'd not need a car either- - sadly there is a lack of public transport here and most of my social life and activities are in the farther reaches of Cowal and mid-Argyll -- distances and hills too great for cycling even when I was young and fit! So a car is essential -- tho most of us endeavour to share transport when we can. I actually think fuel should be cut price in the country / remote areas where we need cars to get around, and extremely expensive in the cities! - My dentist recently acquired an electric car (after much study, bargain hunting and support from the Scottish government) - that seems like the way to go?
