That's your relatively small area. It doesn't mean that red grouse is an endangered species in general. Like all species, it's vulnerable to habitat change. In this case that means the abandonment or afforestation of areas previously used to encourage artificially high populations. As I said, grouse shooting has dramatically fallen in popularity. Overall numbers would have to plunge dramatically below 250,000 pairs, that is half a million birds, before it could be remotely described as endangered. Plenty of information available on all this.
